We’ve heard several general stories about Demi Lovato’s airport meltdown, in which she was involved in some kind of scuffle with a female backup dancer and allegedly screamed at Ashley Greene, who has been dating her ex boyfriend, Joe Jonas. Demi, 18, then went off to rehab, which her people are calling “treatment” for “emotional issues” and not drugs. People Magazine now has a whole follow up with specific details of that incident that sound straight from Demi’s camp. They adamantly deny that Ashley Greene was involved at all, probably because Ashley hates to be associated with Demi and is oh-so-much better than she is. This is a good PR strategy in my opinion because they give information about Demi’s motive and what prompted the fight without telling us what she did exactly to the other girl. (i.e. pull hair, scratch, shout obscenities. I’m just guessing here.) Here’s People’s report:
What really caused Demi Lovato to enter treatment?
The catalyst was a fight between the 18-year-old Disney Channel star and a dancer on the Jonas Brothers world tour, but the problem started the night before, a source close to the singer’s family tells PEOPLE.
“As she did on most nights off, Demi invited her band, dancers and her parents to dinner,” says the source. “Afterward, she broke off with a very small group.”
The following day, tour managers and Lovato’s stepfather, Eddie De La Garza, questioned the group’s conduct. According to a source close to the situation, the group had been partying.
“When tour management found out about this, they talked to the people involved, including Demi,” says the source. “Demi reacted badly and perceived that someone on tour had told on her.”

When Lovato and other tour members were on an airplane that same day, Lovato confronted a young dancer, whom she thought might have been the one to blame for telling on her. “There was a short, physical altercation,” says the source, adding that it was “one-sided.”
“Afterwards, Demi felt awful about her behavior and realized she needed to take personal responsibility for it,” says the family source. “Because of this, and because of the battles Demi has fought throughout her life, both she and her family realized she needed to take steps to get help immediately.”
The singer-actress “decided to seek medical care for her physical and emotional issues at a treatment center,” says the source, adding, “she is not in drug rehab.”
Contrary to published reports, Twilight star Ashley Greene, who is dating Lovato’s ex-boyfriend Joe Jonas, “played no role in this,” says a source close to the situation. Nor did the Jonas Brothers. “They were not involved in the incident,” says another source.
Adds a rep for Greene, “There was never an issue between Ashley and Demi, and there is no truth to any rumors about a conflict.”
One very interesting thing about this story is that it was originally titled “Demi Lovato in Rehab: Why She Went.” (See the top of your browser when you’re on the site.) The title on the page was then changed to “Demi Lovato: Details of the Fight that Sent Her to Treatment.” Demi makes a lot of money for many people, and they want to minimize this incident and in no way taint her with the “rehab” label for years. They’re also trying to make it clear that she’s not on drugs, which may or may not be accurate.
Yesterday we mentioned that Demi’s estranged dad spoke to Radar Online about his daughter, and said that he believed the pressure from Hollywood had got to her. He told a story about when she was in preschool and I got the impression that he hadn’t seen her in years. (Demi’s mom and dad were divorced when she was two.) He also said he had cancer and had just gotten out of the hospital after two months of treatment, during which Demi never visited or called. The fact that her dad talked to the press is said to have enraged her handlers at Disney, and Demi’s lawyer issued a response:
“No one speaks for Demi except for her designated representatives. Unfortunately, several people have taken it upon themselves to speak out — both on and off the record — about a situation they know nothing about.”
Again, this girl makes a lot of people money and they have to make her seem much more together than she obviously is.
